Volunteerism in British Virgin Islands
After you’ve taken in the real flair of the British Virgin Islands, consider tapping into what really makes it tick – philanthropy. Over a period of years starting in the 1960s, the late Laurance Rockefeller defined the spirit of giving, as evidenced by the more than 200 acres he donated to the National Parks Trust. Today this kind of generosity can still be witnessed, seen in many local businesses and churches throughout the islands. While visiting, consider offering your time – or simply a pat on the back -- to such do-gooders as the BVI Reading Council, Animal Rescue and Control of Virgin Gorda, Youth Empowerment Programme, Virgin Gorda Youth Initiative, Red Cross, Humane Society, and the Diabetes Association.
