Villa of the Week: On the Rocks and with a Twist
On the Rocks is quite possibly the best beachside villa we here at Island Lowdown have ever had an opportunity to stumble upon. While we didn’t know about it when writing the book, we have since become this snazzy villa’s biggest fans from this point forward. Word came to us about this villa one sunny April afternoon while kicking back on Little Trunk Bay on Virgin Gorda. As we followed a small trail that snaked through the palms and boulders, who should appear but the owners of On the Rocks (and With a Twist). A friendly couple, they quickly explained that a group of ambitious contractors were in the process of literally splitting a gigantic rock on their property in two in order to make way for some amazing renovations to their villa. We naturally spent the remaining portion of the week gawking at the improvements being made to their Caribbean villa.
With its renovations all wrapped up, On the Rocks now boasts three architecturally designed round buildings, situated on the rocks above Little Trunk Bay. The entire joint is deckted out in Caribbean colors and textures. The all new gourmet kitchen is equipped with a Wolf range, perfect for cooking up the finest local BVI recipes.
Plus, it boasts granite counter tops, liptus wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances and halogen task lighting. Needless to say, entertaining in BVI is easy as cassava pie with this finely equipped cook’s kitchen.
If things couldn’t get any better (and they do), the villa’s living room is exquisitely appointed with a richly stained 14′ exposed beam ceiling, sea grass furniture, custom dining room table all accented in Caribbean colors. It offers a unique circular space that opens up to create an open air living environment which flows freely onto the pool terrace (a personal favorite spot to take advantage of the ocean breeze). Just off the living room you will find a fully equipped wet bar with built in ice maker.
As for the bedrooms, these digs are now home to 4 luxurious bedroom suites, each having a character and style of its own. Each private suite has air-conditioning, flat screen TV (who needs it in BVI though), DVD Player, iPod doc, outdoor shower, robes, fine linens, and plush Euro-Top mattresses. While the interior is of all-star caliber, you are in the BVI after all – so the outside is where the real fun begins. Just take a step outside of this villa, and you’ll see what we mean. On the Rocks is surrounded by jasmine, orchids, palm trees, hibiscus, and many more tropical treasures. As you meander up the gently rising entry stairs to On the Rocks you will be in awe of the giant boulders that surround you. Once you reach the top, the view of the Sir Francis Drake channel and the other islands is breathtaking.
It should come as no surprise that this ultra lux beach pad has such natural amenities, as it’s built on the same dinosaur size rocks that make up the nearby Baths, famous for its granite boulders. And just steps away you’ll find the secluded beach of Little Trunk Bay. Well, semi-secluded, as you’re likely to find us stretched out in the sand drinking a Carib here. This pristine beach offers sugar white sand, crystalline waters, boulder and coral reef snorkeling. Plus, the beach provides a great base to further explore other neighboring sandy spots, such as Valley Trunk and The
Crawl.
