Congrats BVI Artists -- BVI Art & Culture Show 2009
Listen up BVI fans, it’s that time again to rave about – and support -- BVI artists. The London Office of the Government of the British Virgin Islands will be hosting its Annual Art and Culture Exhibit at BVI House starting June 25th. The Art and Culture Exhibit receives partial sponsorship from the do-gooders over at Virgin Atlantic.
In years past hometown heroes included BVI folks like Joseph Hodge, Carol Vanterpool, Reuben Vanterpool, Thor Downing, Jinx Morgan, and Jim Scheiner.
This year’s hoopla will showcase another repeat performance by Carol Vanterpool (abstract expressionist), along with a first time appearance by Joyce Titley (paper filigree, shell work, broomstick lace, and Caribbean dressed dolls), Barbara O’Neal (charcoal sketches, pastels and acrylics), and Gregory Maloney (the popular BVI landscape artist).
Of all the fine BVIslanders represented, Carol Vanterpool, a self-taught artist who serves as the exhibit’s curator, is the hometown hero to watch. Her abstract work in oils and acrylics, inspired by the BVI, will again impress the crowds in London for the sixth year. Her oversize portraits, mostly consisting of vibrant swirls and bursts of explosive color, are bold and demand attention.
On 25th June, the galleries at 15 Upper Grosvenor Street open to the public from 10:00am until 5:00pm. Thereafter, persons wishing to view the exhibit are invited to call the office at 020 7355 9570 to arrange an appointment. Congrats to the BVI artisits in this year's show!
