British Virgin Islands

Lay of the Land

These are volcanic islands, so expect things to get steep and hilly in places, and flat in others. The coastal zone consists of a striking combination of beaches, mangroves, cliffs, coral reefs, and seagrass beds. The  total length of beaches in the BVIs is forty-nine miles. There are approximately sixty islands and cays, and only about sixteen of them are inhabited! The four major islands are Tortola, Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke.
